ECL Hosts Thrilling Quiz Competition for Secondary Schools in Rivers State

On September 21, 2024, the first round of the highly anticipated quiz competition organized by the Education Champions League (ECL) took place, bringing together private and public secondary schools from across Rivers State. The ECL, a non-governmental organization dedicated to revitalizing the reading culture among young people, hosted this event as part of its broader mission to inspire learning and leadership through innovative educational programs.

The competition was held simultaneously at Seacrest Preparatory School and Nigeria Navy Secondary School in Port Harcourt, drawing enthusiastic participation from 16 schools. The event was charged with energy as students demonstrated their reading, comprehension, and creative expression skills, engaging with a diverse range of texts. This platform provided a unique opportunity for students to showcase their intellectual capabilities while fostering a spirit of camaraderie and healthy competition.

After a series of intense rounds, eight schools emerged victorious, advancing to the semi-final stage scheduled for September 28, 2024. These schools impressed judges with their exceptional skills and understanding, setting the stage for an even more competitive and exciting semi-final round. The grand finals will take place on October 26, 2024, marking the culmination of the students’ dedication and hard work.

This competition is more than just an academic challenge; it is also a celebration of the legacies of distinguished individuals from Rivers State. The awards for the winners will honor three inspirational figures who have made significant contributions to society:

1st Prize (N10 million): Late High Chief (Dr.) Olu Benson Lulu-Briggs, celebrated for his role as a businessman and philanthropist dedicated to community development and social welfare.

2nd Prize (N5 million): Late Professor Claude Ake, renowned for his profound impact on education and thought leadership.

3rd Prize (N2.5 million): Boma Erekosima, a respected teacher, journalist, radio presenter, and comedian who has enriched the cultural landscape.

These awards aim to inspire students to emulate the virtues of these extraordinary individuals, encouraging them to pursue excellence, community service, and leadership.

As we approach the semi-finals and finals, the Education Champions League remains steadfast in its commitment to nurturing the intellectual and creative potential of young minds in Rivers State. This competition not only enhances academic performance but also cultivates future leaders equipped to make meaningful contributions to society.
